Lost in the Danube Delta, rescued by Romanian Border Police officers
Romanian Border Police officers within Tulcea County Border Police Inspectorate rescued seven people (four adults and three children) who requested the support of the authorities via Emergency Service 112, due to the fact that they were in danger following the fact that their boat couldn’t be properly handle while being on Danube river.
On 07.07.2011, at about 20.50 hours, Border Police officers within Tulcea Border Police Sector, were informed by Tulcea Emergency Situations Inspectorate (I.S.U.) about the fact that on Danube river, on Sfantu Gheorghe ramification, seven people got lost (four adults and three children), handling a recreational boat.
Acting operatively in order to support the aforementioned people, Border Police officers went to the area where they were supposed to be with two speed boats belonging to Tulcea and Sulina Border Police Sectors.
Looking for the lost people in the area of Sfantu Gheorghe ramification - Buhaz Channel - Palade Channel - Crasnicol Channel and after four hours of thorough searches on Lejai Chanel was detected the lost boat, which was not working anymore due to technical engine issues.
Thus, at about 02.00 hours, the law enforcements detected the seven lost people on this boat, offering them first aid.
The aforementioned people stated that due to the dark coming over night and due to the technical problem, they’ve got lost.
Being in a difficult situation, they asked for help calling the emergency number 112.
The seven people didn’t need medical care and were led to Sfantu Gheorghe.
The entire rescue operation was done in cooperation with the representatives of Tulcea Emergency Situation Inspectorate and A.R.B.D.D. within Sf. Gheorghe area.
Statistics regarding Romanian Border Police activity in the last 24 hours
In the last 24 hours, in the competence areas - meaning border crossing points and "green border" - Border Police officers detected:
- 52 illegal deeds (15 crimes and 37 penalties) committed by Romanian and foreign citizens;
- the amount of penalties reaches approximately 7,900 lei;
- undeclared goods (which were to be smuggled into the country), which exceeded the customs’ legal provisions or were suspected as being counterfeit with a total value of 58,000 lei, were detected;
- the flow of passengers and means of transportation at the border crossing points was about 125,500 people, both at the entry and at the exit and over 33,200 means of transportation.
6 foreign citizens were refused entry due to the fact that they did not meet the entry requirements and 42 Romanian citizens were not allowed to exit Romania out of various legal grounds.
