Thirteen illegal migrants detected at the Western Romanian border
In the last 24 hours, Border Police officers detected and apprehended thirteen people Morocco, Algeria, Palestine and Iraq nationals, trying to illegally cross the Romanian state border. Four migrants were hidden in a truck loaded with cotton roles and nine were apprehended at the "green border". In all the cases, prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers.
- Border Police officers within Bors Border Crossing Point, Arad County, detected four Iraqis hidden in an amended place under the chassis of a truck driven by a Greek national.
On 15.11.2011, Alexopoulos C., a Greek citizen, 50 years old presented himself for border formalities. He drove a truck loaded with cotton roles for a commercial company within Germany. He was accompanied by his co-national Dimitros L., 50 years old.
Based on risk analysis, Romanian Border Police officers together with Hungarian Border Police officers performed a through check on the truck, detecting hidden in an amended place under the chassis four males.
Following preliminary investigations, the driver of the truck mentioned the fact that he knew nothing about how the four people managed to hide in the truck.
On the name of the four illegal migrants prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers.
The investigations are still in process in order to detect all the people involved in organizing and guiding the group and for establishing the entire criminal activity. - Yesterday, 15.11.2011, Border Police officers within Lunga Border Police Sector, Timis County, detected in the responsibility area two groups of people, males, who couldn’t justify their presence within the area. The detected people spoke no Romanian and had no identity documents. Border Police officers led the aforementioned people on the premises of Border Police Sectors in order to sort out the situation.
On this occasion was established the fact that 5 of them are citizens of Morocco, two from Algeria and two from with ages from 18 to 26 years old, which illegally crossed the Serbian - Romanian border trying to enter Romania.
The aforementioned people stated that they acted this way due to the fact that they wanted to reach Schengen area and had no necessary visas for that.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers, at the end of the investigation being taken the imposed legal measures.
Statistics regarding Romanian Border Police activity in the last 24 hours
In the last 24 hours, in the competence areas - meaning border crossing points and "green border" - Border Police officers detected:
- 69 illegal deeds (15 crimes and 54 penalties) committed by Romanian and foreign citizens;
- the amount of penalties reaches approximately 31,600 lei;
- undeclared goods (which were to be smuggled into the country), which exceeded the customs’ legal provisions or were suspected as being counterfeit with a total value of 77,400 lei, were detected;
- the flow of passengers and means of transportation at the border crossing points was about 78,000 people, both at the entry and at the exit and over 25,500 means of transportation.
8 foreign citizens were refused entry due to the fact that they did not meet the entry requirements and 14 Romanian citizens were not allowed to exit Romania out of various legal grounds.
