A Border Police officer informed General Anticorruption Directorate in regards to intention of a person on bribing him


Officers within General Anticorruption Directorate - Mehedinti Anticorruption County Service in cooperation with General Information and Internal Protection Directorate, under the coordination of the prosecutor within Prosecutor’s Office within Mehedinti Court, caught in the act a citizen, while offering to a Border Police officer the amount of 100 LEI, in order not to take the legal measures against him.
In fact, on 09.09.2011, a Border Police officer within Mehedinti Border Police County Inspectorate- Drobeta Turnu Severin Border Police Sector, informed officers within General Anticorruption Directorate - Mehedinti County in regards to the fact that, C.C., living in Timis County , promised him 300 LEI as bribe. In the exchange of the money, Border Police officer should have not fulfilled the daily tasks, meaning not to sanction C.C., who was detected driving a FORD vehicle and transporting live animals without transportation and origin documents.
Following the denunciation, a flagrant was initiated.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of bribery were drawn in accordance with the provisions of art 255 Penal Code and art 7 point 2, Law no. 78/2000 on the name of the aforementioned person.
The investigations are in process in order to gather evidence for the case, C.C. being loose.

Nineteen illegal migrants detected at the Romanian border


At the end of the last week, Romanian Border Police Officers within Timis, Caras Severin and Satu Mare Border Police County Inspectorates detected, in the area of responsibility, 19 people, citizens of Alger, Morocco and Pakistan trying to illegally cross the Romanian "green border".
In all the cases prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing or attempt of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers.
  • Border Police officers within Lunga and Sannicolau Mare Border Police Sectors, Timis County apprehended, in the area of responsibility, two groups of migrants of various nationalities. They spoke no Romanian and had no identity documents.
    Border Police officers led the people on the premises of Border Police Sectors, in order to sort out the situation. On this occasion was established the fact that ten of them are Algerians and three from Morocco with ages between 18 to 34 years old. Nine of them intended to illegally cross the border from Serbia to Romania.
    The aforementioned people stated that they have acted this way due to the fact that they wanted to reach Schengen area and had no visas for that.
  • On 12.09.201, at about 21.30, Border Police officers within Oravita Border Police Sector, Caras Severin County initiated an action on countering illegal migration.
    Thus, around 00.30 hours, at about 200 meters away from the border, were detected four men, walking.
    Border Police officers identified them as foreigners with no identity documents. They were led on the premises of the institution for further investigations.
    Out of the preliminary investigations and men’s statements resulted that they are citizens of Pakistan, with ages between 23 and 38 years old and that they have illegally entered Romania from Republic of Serbia.
  • Also Border Police officers within Carei Border Police Sector, Satu Mare County detected in the area of responsibility, two illegal migrants, citizens of Morocco, trying to illegally reach Schengen area.

Romanian smugglers apprehended, gunfire being used at the Romanian-Ukrainian border


Romanian Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate detected and apprehended three Romanian citizens who were transporting over the border 7,500 packages of smuggled cigarettes.
In order to apprehend the smugglers, Border Police officers used their weapons and ammunition, two gun fires being vertically used, in accordance with law’s provisions.
The cigarettes, valuing over 67,000 LEI, were seized and the Romanian citizens are being investigated in terms of committing several crimes: smuggling and illegal state border crossing.
On 11.09.2011, at 12.00, while carrying out specific tasks, Border Police officers within Brodina Border Police Sector, Suceava County, detected near the border several people walking from Ukraine towards Romania, transporting several big boxes.
The aforementioned people were verbally asked to stop by Border Police officers, but they have ignored the warning and tried to run taking advantage of the woods. Border Police officers had to use the weapons and ammunition, gunfire being vertically used, being able to apprehend three Romanian citizens with ages from 17 to 24 years old.
In the area where the four Romanians were apprehended, 15 big boxes containing 7,500 packages of Ukrainian and Republic of Moldova made cigarettes were detected.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling and illegal state border crossing were drawn by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate, which were handed over to Prosecutor’s office within Radauti Court.
The whole amount of cigarettes, valuing 67,000 LEI was seized by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate.
At the moment, Border Police officers are investigating the case in order to detect all the people involved for taking the legal imposed measures.
Also, Ukrainian border authorities were updated, informed for a joint investigation of the case.

75,000 packages of cigarettes seized by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate


Romanian Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate detected and apprehended a Romanian citizen who was transporting 75,000 packages of smuggled cigarettes which were meant to reach the "black market".
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling and driving a vehicle on a public road while the right of doing that was suspended were drawn by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate.
The cigarettes, valuing about 450,000 LEI, were seized by Border police officers and the Mercedes and Mitsubishi vehicle used for transporting the cigarettes were kept on the premises of Vicov Border Police Sector, for continuing the investigations.
On 10.09.2011, Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate in cooperation with Custom Inspectorate within D.R.A.O.V Iasi carried out a specific activity in the field of countering cigarettes smuggling. On this occasion, they detected a Mercedes and a Mitsubishi vehicle with three people inside.
The drivers did not stop when Border Police officers legally signaled this to them, so the law enforcements started to pursue the two vehicles, using acoustic and optical warning signals, being able to block the vehicles. The three people left the cars running towards Fratauti.
Border Police officers apprehended T. Viorel, 30 years old, living in Vicovu de Jos, Suceava County.
Due to the fact, that inside the vehicles were smuggled cigarettes, the cars and the person were led on the premises of Vicov Border Police Sector, where were detected 74,950 packages of cigarettes, Jing Ling, Viceroy and Doina brands, coming from Ukraine and Republic of Moldova.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling and driving a vehicle on a public road while the right of doing that was suspended were drawn by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate, following to be handed over to Prosecutor’s office within Radauti Court.
The whole amount of cigarettes, valuing 449,700 LEI was seized by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate and the two vehicles, valuing about 20,000 LEI were blocked on the premises of Vicov Border Police Sector.

Romanian Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate detected and apprehended four Romanian citizens who were transporting over the state border 19,500 packages of smuggled cigarettes. In a different case, Border Police officers and Custom’s officers within Siret Border Crossing Point detected 5,250 packages of cigarettes hidden in special new developed places in the floor of a minibus, property of an Ukrainian citizen.
The cigarettes, valuing over 181,000 LEI, were seized and the Romanian citizens are being investigated in terms of committing several crimes: smuggling and complicity to smuggling.
  • Thus, on 09.09.2011, in the morning, while carrying out specific tasks, Border Police officers within Brodina Border Police Sector detected near the border a group of people walking from Ukraine towards Romania, transporting several big boxes.

    In the area where the four Romanians were apprehended, 39 big boxes containing 19,500 packages of Ukrainian and Republic of Moldova made cigarettes were detected.
    Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling and complicity to smuggling were drawn by Border Police officers within Suceava Border Police County Inspectorate.
    At the moment, Border Police officers are investigating the case in order to detect all the people involved for taking the legal imposed measures.
    Also, Ukrainian border authorities were updated, informed for a joint investigation of the case.
  • On 09.09.2011, 12.30 p.m., within Siret Border Crossing Point, a Ukrainian citizen, V. Georgii, 22 years old, came in order to enter the country, in a Mercedes Benz minibus.
    After passport control, Border Police officers and Custom officers thoroughly checked the vehicle, detecting, hidden and undeclared in the floor of the vehicle, 5,250 cigarettes, Viceroy Brand.
    The cigarettes, valuing 6,405 LEI were seized by the Custom officers and the aforementioned person was fined for 10,000 LEI.
    The Mercedes Benz minibus, valuing 34,080 LEI was seized also.

Statistics regarding Romanian Border Police activity in the last 24 hours


In the last 24 hours, in the competence areas - meaning border crossing points and "green border" - Border Police officers detected:
  • 53 illegal deeds (14 crimes and 39 penalties) committed by Romanian and foreign citizens;
  • the amount of penalties reaches approximately 8,500 lei;
  • undeclared goods (which were to be smuggled into the country), which exceeded the customs’ legal provisions or were suspected as being counterfeit with a total value of 510,000 lei, were detected;
  • the flow of passengers and means of transportation at the border crossing points was about 127,000 people, both at the entry and at the exit and over 30,600 means of transportation.
    7 foreign citizens were refused entry due to the fact that they did not meet the entry requirements and 39 Romanian citizens were not allowed to exit Romania out of various legal grounds.
