Fourteen illegal migrants stopped at the Romanian border from their illegal way to Schengen area


In the last 24 hours, Romanian Border Police officers detected and apprehended 14 people of various nationalities trying to illegally cross the Romanian state border on their way to Schengen area.
In all the cases prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing or attempt of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers.
  • On 12.09.201, at about 21.30, a Border Police patrol within Nadlac Border Police Sector, Arad County detected, with the help of thermal vision equipment, a group of nine men, walking towards Hungary. The men were apprehended at about ten meters away from the neighboring state’s territory, close to Nadlac.
    Due to the fact that their presence in the area was not justified and that they spoke no Romanian and had no identity documents, were led on the premises of Border Police Sector, in order to sort out the situation.
    On this occasion was established the fact that five of them are Algerians, two from Morocco, one Lebanese and one Tunisian with ages from 21 to 35 years old, intending to illegally reach France.
    The aforementioned people stated that they have acted this way due to the fact that they wanted to reach Schengen area and had no visas for that.
    On the names of the nine people, prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of attempt of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers, following to be taken the legal imposed measures.
  • Also yesterday, Border Police officers within Lunga and Jimbolia Border Police Sectors, Timis County detected, in the area of responsibility, two groups of migrants. They spoke no Romanian and had no identity documents.
    Border Police officers led the people on the premises of Border Police Sectors, in order to sort out the situation. On this occasion was established the fact that all five are Algerians with ages from 19 to 27 years old, intending to illegally cross the border from Serbia to Romania.
    During the investigation, the aforementioned people stated that they have acted this way due to the fact that they wanted to reach Schengen area and had no visas for that.
    Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers, following to be taken the legal imposed measures.

Romanian Border Police officers within Maramures Border Police County Inspectorate apprehended four people trying to illegally bring into the country about 25,000 cigarettes packages, Ukrainian made, with the help of horses.
The whole amount of cigarettes was seized and the four Romanian citizens were drawn prior acts of criminal investigation in terms the offence of smuggling and illegal state border crossing.
On 13.09.2011, a Border Police patrol within Maramures Border Police County Inspectorate - Viseu de Sus Border Police Sector, detected in a mountain area, at 1,600 meters altitude, a group of people walking along the border with several horses. At the same time, on the neighboring territory a truck which seamed to be loaded with big boxes was waiting.
The aforementioned people came back on the Romanian territory. They were caught by the Border Police officers carrying, with the help of nine horses, 50 big boxes containing smuggled cigarettes.
Immediately, the men were asked to stop, but they ignored the warnings and tried to run, taking advantage of the mountain woody terrain.
Border Police officers pursued the four suspects, apprehending them.
They were identified as V.C., V.K., I.C., V.C., from Poienile de Sub Munte.
After the inventory of the boxes, the fact that they contained 24,899 packages of cigarettes coming from Ukraine, valuing over 213,000 LEI was established.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms the offence of smuggling and illegal state border crossing were drawn by Border Police officers, the cigarettes being asset.
The investigations are in process in order to identify all the people involved.

Statistics regarding Romanian Border Police activity in the last 24 hours


In the last 24 hours, in the competence areas - meaning border crossing points and "green border" - Border Police officers detected:
  • 69 illegal deeds (38 crimes and 31 penalties) committed by Romanian and foreign citizens;
  • the amount of penalties reaches approximately 5,300 lei;
  • undeclared goods (which were to be smuggled into the country), which exceeded the customs’ legal provisions or were suspected as being counterfeit with a total value of 440,000 lei, were detected;
  • the flow of passengers and means of transportation at the border crossing points was about 108,000 people, both at the entry and at the exit and over 30,000 means of transportation.
    15 foreign citizens were refused entry due to the fact that they did not meet the entry requirements and 45 Romanian citizens were not allowed to exit Romania out of various legal grounds.
