Statistics regarding Romanian Border Police activity in the last 24 hours


In the last 24 hours, in the competence areas - meaning border crossing points and "green border" - Border Police officers detected:
  • 65 illegal deeds (17 crimes and 48 penalties) committed by Romanian and foreign citizens;
  • the amount of penalties reaches approximately 18,300 lei;
  • undeclared goods (which were to be smuggled into the country), which exceeded the customs’ legal provisions or were suspected as being counterfeit with a total value of 252,000 lei, were detected;
  • the flow of passengers and means of transportation at the border crossing points was about 88,300 people, both at the entry and at the exit and over 29,000 means of transportation.
    9 foreign citizens were refused entry due to the fact that they did not meet the entry requirements and also 1 foreign 32 Romanian citizens were not allowed to exit Romania out of various legal grounds.

Cigarettes smuggling at Porumbesti


Five people are incriminated by Romanian Border Police officers for smuggling. At the residence of one of them 2,900 packages of cigarettes, Ukrainian made, just brought into Romania illegally, over the green border, were detected.
On 24 th of October 2011, around 21.30, Border Police officers within Halmeu Border Police Sector, detected three people walking from the border line towards Romania, Porumbesti area. They were carrying two big boxes per each. In order not to be apprehended by Border Police officers, the three people started to run, reaching Porumbesti area.
Border Police officers continued the investigations and in the aforementioned village, Porumbesti, in an annex of a building, detected a person, Arnold Nicolae T., 22 years old. Later on, at Ferencz. T residence, 22 years old, from Porumbesti, our colleagues detected six big boxes wrapped in black foil, containing 2,900 packages of cigarettes, Ukrainian made: 2,500 packages of Viceroy cigarettes and 400 packages of Ronson cigarettes, valuing about 12,470 LEI.
Arnold Nicolae T. and Ferencz T. were led to the premises of Halmeu Border Police Sector for being interviewed. They stated that Ferencz T. was the one transporting the cigarettes from the border line to his place in Porumbesti and Arnold T. had to survey the area of the smuggling in order to signal the presence of Border Police officers. Three different people were also involved in this crime: Jozsef E., 28 years old together with Ioan S., 33 years old who were supposed to transport the cigarettes from the border line to the aforementioned building and Istvan S., 23 years old having the role of surveying the area in order to signal the presence of Border Police officers.
The cigarettes were to be sold on Romania’s territory and the money to be split into four to the people involved in this crime. Border Police officers seized the whole amount of cigarettes, and Ferencz T., Jozsef E., Istvan S. and Ioan S. are being incriminated for complicity to smuggling and fiscal evasion. Arnold Nicolae E. is being incriminated for complicity to smuggling also. The investigations are in process, being informed the Ukrainian authorities about this event.

False identity card detected at Petea


A young man, Romanian citizen, living in Dolj County, is incriminated by Border Police officers for identifying himself with a false identity card at the entrance to Romania.
Tuesday, 25.10.2011, at about 21.00 hours, at Petea Border Crossing Point came in order to enter Romania, a young man presenting for passport control an identity card on the name of Razvan M., from Dolj County. On the occasion of entry Romania formalities, Border Police officers who checked the travel document concluded that it is not a genuine one.
Following the thorough check was established the fact that the person who came at the entrance is Marius I, from Segarcea town, Dolj County. He stated that the data included in the falsified document belong to his brother and that, while being in Spain, he had lost his own identity card, meeting later on, in the same country, a Romanian citizen who gave him the aforementioned document, presented to Border authorities.
Now, Marius I., is being incriminated for the offence of false usage, misusage of the document, complicity to falsifying official documents and attempt of illegal border crossing.

Cigarettes capture at the border


Romanian Border Police officers within Caras Severin Border Police County Inspectorate detected a Romanian citizen carrying 7,000 packages of smuggled cigarettes.
On 25.10.2011, starting with 14.00 hours, based on data and information of Naidas Border Police Sector, Border Police officers initiated a specific action in the filed of countering cigarettes smuggling.
At about 18.45 hours, with the help of video surveillance system was detected a mean of transportation close to border line, its presence there not being justified.
The Border Police patrol within that area was informed and at about 200 meters away from Rusova Noua, the vehicle was intercepted on an agricultural road.
The Ford Mondeo vehicle was inspected. Due to the fact that inside were detected several big boxes, an operational team was requested, finding inside a big number of packages of cigarettes: 4,500 packages of FAST cigarettes, Serbian made and 2,500 packages of MARBLE cigarettes, with no stamps.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling and fiscal evasion were drawn by Border Police officers.
The amount of cigarettes, valuing about 70,000 LEI, was seized by Border Police officers.
The Ford Mondeo vehicle, valuing about 12,000 LEI, was seized also on the premises of Caras Severin Border Police County Inspectorate up to the finalization of the investigations.

Smuggling network stopped at Botosani


Following an informative-operational activity, carried out for a period of four months, D.I.I.C.O.T. prosecutor - Botosani Territorial Bureau, in cooperation with officers within Botosani Border Police County Inspectorate, technically and operationally supported by officers within D.G.I.P.I. and by Botosani National Police County Inspectorate, Botosani Countering Organized Crime Service and Botosani Gendarmerie County Inspectorate initiated on 25.10.2011 an action in order to catch into act a criminal network specialized in Moldavian cigarettes smuggling, acting in Botosani County.
Out of the information gathered by D.G.I.P.I. and Border Police officers, resulted that the criminal group consists of Moldovans and Romanians with well determined roles within the group receiving the cigarettes, surveying the roads, transporting, storage and selling of the goods, in order to get benefits out of it.
On the occasion of this action, from close to Prut River, border area and following the 28 house searches, 10.500 packages of cigarettes, money, two vehicles and different goods, part of the criminal activity, were seized.
The house searches were also in regards to two Border Police officers within Romanesti Border Police Sector.
The investigations are ongoing, under the leadership of D.I.I.C.O.T. prosecutor together with officers within Botosani Border Police County Inspectorate.
