Twenty two illegal migrants detected at the Romanian border


Within the first three days of this year, Romanian Border Police officers within Timioara Border Police Territorial Inspectorate detected fifteen people trying to illegally cross the Serbian-Romanian border and seven people trying to illegally reach Hungary towards "green border".
Border Police officers within Lunga, Jimbolia, Moravita and Sannicolau Mare Border Police Sectors detected, in the area of responsibility, eight groups of illegal migrants consisting of twenty two men.
The detected people had no identity documents and spoke no Romanian. This determined Border Police officers to lead the people on the premises of Border Police Sectors, in order to sort out the situation. On this occasion, was established the fact that they are citizens of Palestine, Alger, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia, with ages from 19 to 44 years old. Fifteen of them were trying to illegally cross the Serbian-Romanian border and seven tried to illegally reach Hungary in order to access Schengen area.
Prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of state border illegal crossing or attempt of state border illegal crossing were drawn by Border Police officers, following, at the end of the investigation to be taken all the imposed legal measures.

Statistics regarding Romanian Border Police activity in the last 24 hours


In the last 24 hours, in the competence areas - meaning border crossing points and "green border" - Border Police officers detected:
  • 17 illegal deeds (2 crimes and 15 penalties) committed by Romanian and foreign citizens;
  • the amount of penalties reaches approximately 3,500 lei;
  • undeclared goods (which were to be smuggled into the country), which exceeded the customs’ legal provisions or were suspected as being counterfeit with a total value of 1,400 lei, were detected;
  • the flow of passengers and means of transportation at the border crossing points was about 83,000 people, both at the entry and at the exit and over 20,400 means of transportation.

    18 foreign citizens were refused entry due to the fact that they did not meet the entry requirements and 14 Romanian citizens were not allowed to exit Romania out of various legal grounds.
