Gun shots at the Romanian border for apprehending a group of illegal migrants


On 10.12.2011, Romanian Border Police officers within Timis Border Police County Inspectorate detected two groups of illegal migrants trying to illegally cross the Serbian-Romanian border, intending to reach Schengen area.
In order to apprehend one of the groups, Border Police Officers had to use their weapons, three warning shots being fired vertically.
On 10th of December 2011 Border Police officers within Lunga and Beba Veche Border Police Sectors, Timis County, detected, with the help of night vision equipment, two groups of illegal migrants, walking from Serbia towards Romania. Immediately a specific action for apprehending and leading them on the premises of Border Police Sectors was initiated.
Also in order to apprehend one of the groups, Border Police officers had to use their weapons, three warning shots being fired vertically, following laws’ provisions.
Out of the preliminary investigations was established the fact that the seven people detected are citizens of Morocco, Afghanistan with ages from 20 to 24.
The aforementioned people stated that they acted this way because of the lack of Schengen visas and their intention to reach Schengen area.
In both of the cases prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of illegal border crossing were drawn by Border Police officers, following at the end of the investigation to be taken all the imposed legal measures.
